Birchfield & Humphrey, P.A. welcomes eminent domain attorney Lauren E. Howell to the firm. Lauren recently joined the firm as a Partner based in Jacksonville.

Her unique experience and perspective will enable us to better represent our landowner clients in eminent domain proceedings across the State of Florida.”
Prior to joining Birchfield & Humphrey, Lauren served as Assistant General Counsel to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). From 2013 to 2018, she represented FDOT District 2 in all phases of right-of-way acquisition, eminent domain proceedings and defended against inverse condemnation claims.
In her new position, Lauren will focus her practice on defending property owners in eminent domain and inverse condemnation proceedings. In addition, she will represent Florida property and business owners in land use and property rights matters.
A Northeast Florida native, Lauren attended the University of Florida earning her B.S. in 2001. She then attended the University of Florida, Levin College of Law. While in law school, she studied international law at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Upon graduation, she was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2005.
Lauren began her career as an Assistant State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit in Jacksonville. She developed a passion for litigation and gained extensive experience prosecuting felony crimes. She then practiced with a private North Florida firm in the areas of environmental and land use law. In addition to her law practice, Lauren has served as a Special Magistrate for a small North Florida for six years.
